Flexibility and Mobility quite often get lumped into the same category and confused with one another and whilst both are important for your bodies health and quality of life, they are indeed different.
Flexibility is the range at which you can move a joint to its full extent, pain free and without stiffness through a range of motion, including the use of over pressure or force such as the strength in your arms pulling your leg closer to your chest as an example.
Mobility is your ability to control the whole range of motion with just the muscles. Mobility refers to the strength of the muscle in this range of motion. For example, you would be able to control the entire movement of the leg with just the leg muscles. Unlike flexibility, there is no requirement for any assistance to perform the move.
Having good mobility ensures correct techniques are employed during times of physical exercise and the full range of motion of specific joints is being safely utilised during training sessions.
Both flexibility and mobility can be increased through massage treatments by utilising techniques such as PNF stretching (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) as well as manipulating soft tissues to lengthen and increase the range of motion that muscle or tendon may have.
My aim is to return your body's mobility to normal limits and provide the ability of freedom of movement once again to an injury site or stress/movement related dysfunction.
